Did you know that the Neapolitan Mastiff is one of the oldest dogs in the world? Records date back to the first century AD, but the breed was only recognized outside of Italy in the mid-1950s. The word 'Mastiff' (which can also be spelled 'Mastiff') means 'large guard dog'. This name is very appropriate, since the Mastiff was used as a guard dog and also participated in wars and battles during Roman times. Fun fact: Canino, Hagrid's famous dog from Harry Potter, is a Neapolitan Mastiff! He was played by Monkey, who was abandoned by his former owners. But trainer Julie Tottman fell in love with him, rescued him, and turned him into a movie star. ✨ These pets are really huge and heavy!
