"Germania" was the name the capital of Adolf Hitler's "Thousand Year Reich" was once supposed to have. A huge assembly hall and a 120-meter-high triumphal arch were planned for the new Berlin. However, not much of this was built before the fall of Nazi rule. Only the East-West axis and the New Reich Chancellery were realized under the direction of Hitler's favorite architect Albert Speer. The victors razed the Reich Chancellery to the ground in 1945. But not all relics of the megalomaniac plans have disappeared. In cooperation with the "Berliner Unterwelten" association, SPIEGEL TV author Michael Kloft followed the trail of Hitler's "Germania" in Berlin and the surrounding area in 2002.
