The size of this mountainous country is approximately 500 x 500 km, its area is about 250 thousand km², which is comparable to the area of Great Britain. The plateau is the highest part of the Siberian Traps, one of the largest trap provinces in the world. The flora and fauna of the Putorana Plateau are unusually rich for this region located in the Arctic Circle. Many rare and endangered representatives of flora and fauna, including endemics and relics, have survived here. The Putorana Plateau has never been permanently inhabited by humans. Only a few material evidence of the presence of the Evenks, representatives of the indigenous small people of the North, who roamed the plateau in the past, have survived on its territory.
