The fight between the American company Avon and the Brazilian company Natura dominated the cosmetics market in Brazil for decades. Founded in the 1960s, Natura conquered the country. But it wanted more: to become a global powerhouse. This turned out to be a big mistake. Learn about the history of Natura. Luis Seabra founded Natura in the late 1960s. He initially opened a store with a partner, but realized that the direct sales model would work better. He focused on this method and sold door-to-door himself. Natura soon caught people's attention. New consultants began selling Natura products. But in the 1980s, with the severe economic crisis that Brazil faced, his partner ended up leaving. That's when he sought out 2 new partners: Guilherme Leal and Pedro Passos. The trio that would run Natura was formed. With the trio at the helm, Natura grew and the company began to reach thousands of Brazilian homes through its consultants. The next 3 decades were marked by the dispute for customers between Natura and its rival Avon. The magazines were a huge success. But the trio wanted more, focusing on abroad. So, in 2013, in a 7-year window, the company bought the multinationals Aesop, The Body Shop and its archrival Avon, shocking the world. Natura became the 4th largest beauty company in the world.
