This bond makes the individual part of the people of this country and, as a consequence, can enjoy the rights and be subject to the duties of that nation. Today I will talk about Nationality, which is an important subject within Constitutional Law. In this video, you will learn the difference between nationality, place of birth and citizenship, the types of nationality, the difference between a natural-born and naturalized Brazilian, and the situations in which someone can lose their nationality. Nationality has to do with the bond with the State, while Citizenship is obtaining political rights. Place of birth refers to the city where the person was born. Place of birth is the city where you are a native. Primary nationality is divided into 2 criteria: jus solis and jus sanguinis. Secondary (or derived) nationality is the bond that arises from a voluntary act, when the person chooses to become a national of that country, and it happens through naturalization.
