National Day of Creativity On the National Day of Creativity, which took place on Saturday 26 October 2024, chairwoman Linda Jeekel talked to our guests about the relationship between creativity and bipolarity. Linda interviewed them about the cyclical patterns, intense emotions and the unique ability to think outside the box that characterize both creativity and bipolarity. Guests: Three creative minds, each with their own way of dealing with their inner mood, share their journey through art and mental health. Marijke Uittenbroek, a visual artist and art writer, reflects the dynamics of her bipolar disorder in her work. Long before her diagnosis at the age of 39, her mood swings were already visible in her art. During depressions, her creations were dark and subdued, often limited to drawings. During hypomania, she started painting, with a clear reflection of the increasing energy. Michael van der Meide, a fashion designer who pushes the boundaries of fashion and mental health, has transformed his personal experiences with manic episodes into a unique collection. His designs, twelve pieces each representing a month and associated emotion, break the stigma around bipolarity and open a dialogue about mental health. Michael shows that it is possible to follow your own path, even when faced with challenging obstacles. Diana van Houten, illustrator, painter and animator, often explores dark themes and the connection between humans and animals in her work. Whether she works digitally or with a brush, her art is a reflection of her inner world, with contrast and conflict as central themes. Together with her colleagues JJ and Yngwie in Moldybyrd Studio, she works on animation projects, while also developing her own projects. The talk show was accompanied by music by Astrid Bos.
