From the Xochimilco Ecological Park, we signed the National Agreement for the Human Right to Water and Sustainability. With this alliance we recognize water as a national asset and a natural resource; it is a human right, not a commodity. Every Mexican woman and man must have quality water, sufficient for consumption and food production; this is only possible if we do it together through a comprehensive water plan, with a long-term vision for sustainability. This agreement consists of: Putting order in the concessions, through a single registry; this will allow us to know how much water is available in the country. Making water more efficient for agricultural irrigation; for the first time, this program involves farmers and irrigation districts. In 2025 we will invest at least nine billion pesos. In the industrial sector, we will reach an agreement with businessmen and women to improve the use of treated water. A master plan for each entity of the Republic; with this, the three levels of government will have planning for the coming years and will direct resources towards the same purpose: improving the distribution and management of water. Finally, a plan of strategic works to serve regions of the country with less access to water, such as the north of the country or the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico, where we already have a plan. We cannot be the twelfth economy and, at the same time, have the most polluted rivers in the world. Therefore, this plan includes the sanitation of rivers: we will begin with Lerma-Santiago, Tula and Atoyac. We thank all state governments for joining this alliance; educational institutions and irrigation districts throughout the country; the farmers and peasants who feed us every day; the presidents of the Chambers of Deputies and Senators; businessmen and women from different sectors. We will return in a year to evaluate the results of this important agreement.
