A professor of astronomy at Leiden University has been suspended after years of intimidating behavior. De Volkskrant reported on it last week, but his name was kept secret by the university and colleagues. De Volkskrant also did not reveal his identity. NRC published his name yesterday anyway. The motivation was: 'because there is a wrongdoing at a public organization and because he held a position of power as a professor and (former) director with regard to (scientific) employees and students.' Aylin Bilic (NRC correspondent) understands that. That person is a public figure, she says. Moreover: if you have your sources in order, you can easily mention a name. Her difficulty lies elsewhere. 'Apparently it is very difficult for people with power and position to behave decently towards their fellow human beings.' Thomas Muntz (chief editor of Investico) says: 'If you think it is important enough to write about it, you should also mention his name.' Sander van Hoorn (NOS reporter) does not go that far. It's a gray area, he says, and is considering following the 'old line': first wait for a conviction.
