On December 16, 2024, a source from Kawthaung Province, Myanmar, reported the verdict in the case of four Thai crew members who were arrested by a Myanmar military warship along with 28 other Myanmar crew members and had their fishing boat seized at Yan Chueak Island, Kawthaung District, on November 30 while they were fishing in the overlapping area. The source stated that the Kawthaung Provincial Court sentenced the boat owner to five years in prison for fishing in Myanmar’s waters without permission and sentenced him to one year in prison for illegally entering the country without permission, totaling six years in prison and a fine of 200,000 Kyat. The other three Thai crew members were sentenced to three years in prison each for fishing in Myanmar’s waters without permission. And sentenced to 1 year in prison for illegally entering the country without permission, totaling 4 years in prison and a fine of 30,000 Kyat each.
