♦︎ Karen State, a border city between Myanmar and Thailand, has been occupied mostly by the Karen National Liberation Army and its allied Civil Defense Forces. Since the Myanmar military took power in a coup in February 2021, ethnic armed groups such as the Rakhine, Kachin, and Karen have been waging an armed struggle against the government forces. The rebels, who do not receive Western weapons support, are fighting with inferior weapons purchased on the Thai black market, and are using commercial drones made by some computer experts as weapons of war. In the three years since the military coup, at least 50,000 people have died, including 8,000 civilians, and more than 3 million people have been displaced. #CorrespondentReportTheWorldNow #TheWorldNow #InternationalCurrentAffairsCorrespondentReportTheWorldNow (Broadcast every Saturday night at 09:40 KBS 1TV) Copyright ⓒ KBS.
