Welcome to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia! There are many buildings and churches made from colored volcanic stone called Tuff. In Indonesia, it might look like the stone of Borobudur Temple, the colors are the same but a bit pixelated, it's so beautiful! However, there is one more interesting place in the middle of the city: a stalled Soviet relic. Yes, Armenia used to be part of the Soviet Union. The Yerevan Cascade is a city park from the outside, but a museum and art gallery inside. Unfortunately, the museum was closed when I was there. Built on 13 hectares of sloping land with a total of 572 steps, complete with escalators inside, the Cascade Stairs are actually victory stairs, because they connect the center of Yerevan with Victory Park on the hill, which was built by the Soviets as a sign of victory against Germany in World War II. After years of back and forth, finally in 1970 the construction of this giant staircase began. The funding came directly from Moscow, and wow, it's really magnificent! The stone used is also travertine, large and very descriptive of the glory of the Soviet Union at that time. Unfortunately, this project had to stall when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, even though there was only a little left :( Series Georgia????????
