For most people, the garden, especially one directly next to the house, is like a little paradise that can be designed and planted according to one's own ideas and wishes. In view of the dramatic decline in many native animal species, many of which are already extinct and around 30 percent are threatened, home and allotment gardens can and should make an important contribution to species protection.
