The British are notorious for their cuisine: overcooked vegetables, raw meat and greasy chips, and fried chocolate bars for dessert. Until recently, only the famous English breakfast or a sophisticated teatime saved the British reputation. But suddenly everything is different: since celebrity chef Jamie Oliver showed Europe's top chefs how it's done, British cuisine has become all the rage. But hardly anyone knows that there are other delicacies to be found in Britain's pots besides fish 'n' chips. For example, the Scottish national dish haggis - a spicy sheep's stomach filled with innards and oatmeal. And then there's the national sandwich chefs' competition, where the best sandwich is chosen every year. Only topped by the extremely high-calorie speciality of a Scottish bar: the fried Mars bar. ARD correspondent Uwe Schwering and his team from the London studio travelled through the British kingdom up to Scotland and experienced the culinary highs and lows of British cuisine. They also discovered true wonders such as the sparkling wine from Sussex in southern England, which French champagne producers are licking their fingers over.
