Yesterday I had the opportunity to finally film Lennakatten's train. The Lennakatten is one of the most popular museum railways in Sweden, and with its proximity to Stockholm, I really had no excuse not to go. I drove to Marielund and was delighted to see so many enthusiastic visitors, especially in the morning. Recently the Lennakatten celebrated its 50th anniversary, and this film is my way of helping to preserve the railway for another 50 years. The Lennakatten is a 33 km long museum railway in Uppland that is run by the Museum Association Stockholm-Roslagens Järnvägar, founded in 1968. With over 2,000 members from all over Sweden and abroad, the railway is maintained on a voluntary basis by around 250 active members who preserve part of the Uppland railway history in their spare time . Since 1974, the museum train has run every summer on the old railway between Uppsala Östra (at Uppsala Central) and Faringe, three miles to the east. The railway's history begins as early as 1876, and the nickname Lennakatten comes from an old train that the locals thought sounded like a hissing cat. The journey goes through rolling plains, sparkling lakes and deep forests and offers a nostalgic experience for all ages. --- This summer, I was eager to visit one of Sweden's most thrilling museum railways, Lennakatten. It's arguably the most beloved museum railway in the country, and being so close to Stockholm, I had no excuse not to go. I drove to Marielund for a day of exploration and was delighted to see many enthusiastic visitors, especially in the morning. Recently, Lennakatten celebrated its 50th anniversary, and this visit was my way of contributing to its preservation for another 50 years. BLJ 5 Thor is the steam locomotive in Sweden that runs by far the most each year, around 700 miles a year. Diesel locomotives began to replace steam locomotives because they were cheaper to run and required less maintenance. SRJ 3, built in 1954, was a unique locomotive type that was only available in Uppland.
