About :

Yesterday I took a trip to Jädraås to participate in Stora Tåghelgen, a railway event dedicated to the Jädraås-Tallås railway. On this day, the museum railway had organized several trips, led by four separate steam locomotives. Visitors could ride the trains, visit the locomotive shed and museum facilities on the railway grounds and enjoy a delicious lunch or coffee in the area. Jädraås-Tallås Railway (JTJ) is a preserved narrow-gauge railway in Sweden, which stretches approximately 12 kilometers between the towns of Jädraås and Tallås. This cultural railway, with a gauge of 891 mm, offers a nostalgic journey through scenic landscapes, reminiscent of railway journeys from the early 20th century. Founded in 1970 by railway enthusiasts, JTJ preserves and operates steam and diesel locomotives and historic carriages, providing visitors with an authentic and immersive experience. The railway functions as a living museum and showcases the rich history of Sweden's narrow-gauge railway system and the important role they played in regional transport. By regularly organizing special events and themed trips, the Jädraås-Tallås Railway attracts railway enthusiasts, families and tourists, making it a beloved cultural and historical asset in the region. A big thank you to Jädraås Surdegsbageri for helping me with some fantastic pictures of their premises. I can really recommend this bakery, located just one minute from Jädraås station, for their excellent service and good buns! --- Yesterday I took a drive to Jädraås to join Stora Tåghelgen (The Big Train Weekend), a railway event dedicated to the Jädraås-Tallås railway. Info about the locomotive: Locomotive 2 - Korsån (1902) Add: Vagn & Maskinfabriken Falun 1902, add. no. 21 F d Ågs Railway no. 2 KORSÅN was built for the Åg line between Vintjärn, Åg and Hinsen. The locomotive, a tank locomotive with a frame tank, originally lacked a running axle under the cab, which was later added to improve its running. After the closure of the Åg line in 1948, the locomotive was sold to Dannemora mines where it was used as a switch locomotive. In 1961, the newly formed 891-Järnvägarnas Museisällskap (now JTJ) found the locomotive at the mine and received it as a gift. After renovation, KORSÅN returned to operation in 1967 and was moved to Jädraås the same year. The boiler was retubed in the winter of 1969-70 and an extensive boiler overhaul was completed in 1987. The locomotive was out of service in 2018-2020 for tube replacement but returned to service in July 2021, just in time for JTJ's 60th anniversary celebrations. Locomotive 4 - Sigbjörn (1901) The locomotive was built for the Ulricehamns Railway (UJ) but was sold to the Ljungbyholm-Carlslunda Railway when the UJ was widened to standard gauge in 1909. In 1937 the locomotive was bought by the Byvalla-Långshyttans Railway (BLJ) where it was given the number 8 and was used intensively on The monastery works in Långshyttan. When steam operation at Klosterverken ceased in 1972, the locomotive became Sweden's last narrow-gauge steam locomotive in daily service. JTJ bought the locomotive and named it SIGBJÖRN after Sigbjörn Holgersson from Kopparfors AB, who contributed to the creation of the museum railway. The locomotive is still in operation. Locomotive 9 - Tallås (1898) Till Motala Verkstad 1898, till no. 196 fd Mariestad-Kinnekulle Jvg 6, Vestergötland-Göteborgs Jvg 22, Byvalla-Långshyttans Jvg 9 The locomotive was delivered to Mariestad-Kinnekulle Railway (MKJ) and taken over in 1909 by Vestergötland-Göteborgs Railways, as under The 1920s equipped the locomotive with a door in the rear end so that the fireman could also serve as a conductor. In 1941, the locomotive was sold to the Byvalla-Långshyttans Railway (BLJ) where it was given the number 9 and was mostly used for switching. After BLJ closure, it became a spare locomotive for the switch at Klosterverken in Långshyttan before it was sold to JTJ in 1969. The locomotive has undergone several renovations, most recently with the replacement of the lighthouse, and was put into operation again in July 2014.
