The Gasoline Issue: The Price of Gasoline has been a major challenge in Iran’s economy for the past 60 years, and the debate over its reform is hot these days. Some experts believe that the main problem lies in oil ownership, as oil and gasoline are closely linked. In Iran, the nationalization of oil has created ambiguity in ownership and oil has become state-owned. In a specialized roundtable discussion, Alireza Tavakoli Kashi, an economist, presented a solution to correct the imbalance in the energy market that is independent of the government budget and generates tax revenue for the government. However, his plan has been criticized. Abbas Akhundi, a politician and professor at the Faculty of World Studies, pointed to Iran’s turbulent environment and believes that Tavakoli Kashi’s plan is ineffective in the current circumstances.
