Contents: The series' trademark was the constant bickering between the two characters, reminiscent of a married couple, who, however, always addressed each other formally, did not live together, and quickly made up after an argument. Mr. Fox always lived in his burrow with a door that creaked with every movement and "magpies" in their nest. Unlike the kind and friendly inhabitants of the fairytale land, the two squabblers seemed a bit more anarchistic, which probably explains their popularity with children. Some of the fox's phrases and exclamations were legendary, such as "Hassassassassassass", "Cross spider and crossbill", "Cuckoo's egg and hoopoe" or, commenting on Mrs. Magpie's nature: "That person!". He also occasionally sang the song "The fox goes through the forest", which follows the melody of the song The Song of the Post Office. However, he often modified it to suit his current activity, for example: Mr. Fox is waxing his skis or: Mr. Fox has something planned for today. Origin: The first broadcast was on March 9, 1961. The concept and the hand puppets were developed by Hans Schroeder. Originally, when they were introduced into the world of the fairytale forest at the end of the 1950s, both were only intended as peripheral characters. Their appearance and behavior were also different from what most people remember today. Mrs. Magpie in particular underwent a great deal of external development. At first she resembled a shaggy crow. In a second phase she was a sparrow-like creature. It was not until the third puppet version that their final appearance was found. In the beginning, both characters had a deceitful, even downright criminal character. Over time they became friendlier and thus more popular, until they became the stars of the evening greeting of the program Unser Sandmännchen alongside Pittiplatsch and Schnatterinchen. The approximately 1350 episodes were filmed between 1961 and 1991. In addition to the films, there were also several books, radio plays and slide series with and about foxes and magpies.
