Many Ukrainians, arriving in Spain as refugees, join the Red Cross program. In the first phase, Ukrainians are accommodated in hotels in cities where this is possible. Unfortunately, you cannot choose your place of residence at this stage. But, moving on to the second phase, you have the opportunity to move closer to your relatives and friends living in Spain. What is the second phase? This is an opportunity to independently find suitable housing for you and the Red Cross will pay for it. You will also eat and buy essential things for life yourself, but at the same time you will be transferred a certain amount every month for these expenses. When can you move to the second phase? Initially, it was necessary to live under the program in the first phase for 6 months, but later, given the number of refugees, this became an optional requirement. What should you do first? Be sure to attend a meeting with your curator from the Red Cross. There you should be given a "handout" on the topic of the 2nd phase. In addition, you must have the original letter about the amounts of payments established for you or your family for housing rental and to cover basic needs. Your curator should issue it. What is the amount of assistance? For housing rental, the following is allocated: for one person up to 376 euros per month. For two - up to 520; for three - up to 565. For accommodation (food, clothing, payment of utilities) for one - 350; for two - 520; for three - 570 All amounts must be indicated in your handout. The contract must be concluded with the owner of the property. You can rent a room, an apartment with the required number of rooms, or a house if you have a large family. The main condition will be only that the rent amount does not exceed the amount of rental assistance from the Red Cross. According to the terms of the housing rental contract, utility bills may be included in the rent in full, or they may not be included. How does the transition to the second phase occur? You need to prepare all the documents to move to the second phase: - Rental contract Document on payment for real estate services Document from your bank with your account details. You need to give these documents to your curator and wait for a response to your application. On average, it is considered for 2-3 weeks, but the period can increase to 2 months. How long can you stay in the second phase? Initially, the Red Cross gives a document in which it guarantees such payments for six months, with a possible extension. Presumably, the extension of payments will concern only the cost of rent and for more vulnerable groups of the population, such as large families, disabled people, pensioners. Good luck to you!
