In that world where all life is monitored and even the food we eat is controlled, humans live under the service of artificial intelligence (AI). There are endless things robots can do for humans, such as gardening, housework, and talking companions. Except for one thing, 'love'... Instilling 'emotions' in robots was the final gateway to the development of robotics, and was also a controversial issue. Humans regarded robots as sophisticated household tools, and did not tolerate anything more than that. However, as many couples were unable to have children, humans began to find value in robots beyond household tools. One day, Dr. Harvey declared that he would create a robot with emotions. According to Dr. Harvey's plan, David, the first artificial human with emotions, is born through the robot company Cybertronics Manufacturing, and David is adopted into the home of Henry Swinton, an employee of Cybertronics. David is the first robot boy programmed to love humans. Martin, the Swintons' biological son, is incurably ill and is frozen until a cure is developed. David acts as their son and adapts to human society. David, who considered the Swintons as his parents, is abandoned when Martin is discharged from the hospital. Thinking of the Pinocchio fairy tale his mother told him, David thinks he can become a real human and regain his mother's love he lost, and he sets out on a journey with his toy, friend, and protector, a teddy bear.
