I traveled to Piaçabuçu, a charming city in Alagoas, to show you one of the most incredible places on the northeast coast. Here, where the São Francisco River meets the Atlantic Ocean, the landscape is simply breathtaking, with dunes that leave anyone in awe. Leaving from the ferry port in Piaçabuçu, I embarked on a boat trip along the Velho Chico. Sailing along its calm waters, I was guided by the experienced boatman Ricardo, who took me to the mouth of the river. I made several interesting stops along the way. At one of them, I saw the impressive dunes that surround the region. I also learned about the cacimbas, wells dug in the sand to obtain fresh water, an ingenious solution by local residents to the salinization of the river. I visited the community of Pixaim, where families face the challenge of the advancing dunes. It was exciting to see how the recent arrival of electricity has brought new hope to the residents. At Alexandra's restaurant, I tried a delicious chicken stew, prepared with great care and fresh ingredients from the region. Every moment in Piaçabuçu was a celebration of riverside traditions and the simplicity of local life. I was enchanted by the cultural richness and hospitality of the people I met.
