The documentary shows the construction of an architect-designed house - and what original dormers had to do with building regulations. Ten years later, it looked like this: https://1.ard.de/Traumhauser-F1S6-wei... For architect Michael Wimmer, how he could overcome them was a particular challenge. Anyone who plans to build a house likes to let their imagination run wild. Finally, all of their long-held dreams of perfect living can come true! Most builders' dreams quickly fail due to the harsh facts of financing. But there are other hurdles on the way to a dream home: building regulations, development plans and local building regulations, which often dictate the type and form of development down to the smallest detail. As in the case of the "house with dormers" in Eichenau near Munich. Architect Michael Wimmer from the Munich-based office 03, who designed the house together with his colleagues, had very little scope for design. The flat roof requested by the clients was not possible. A second floor was not permitted. The orientation of the house and garage, the eaves height, the number of dormer windows - everything was precisely specified. Despite this, office 03 managed to design a house that blends into the surroundings in a simple and unobtrusive way and yet is immediately recognizable as something special. This is mainly due to the unusually high dormer windows, which give the house character on the outside and make the attic seem almost like an additional floor on the inside. The striking stainless steel window frames and the irregular placement of the windows are also immediately noticeable. Clear and functional, without frills and extravagances but high-quality in design and fittings - this is what the clients wanted for their very own dream house. Not a luxury villa, but a restrained, stylish home. They got it. Ten years after moving in, we visit the builders again. Are they still happy with their carefully designed house?
