How do you photograph a waterfall in the woods, with little light, rain, storm, hail and also get a silk effect on the water? The plan was to take a silk effect on the river at the Monte Gelato waterfall, secluded in a grove, in the shade. As soon as I got out of the car, a shower of hail welcomed me, and the situation suddenly became difficult because the sky had become very dark. By now I was there and I didn't feel like giving up, and then these difficulties represent challenges, you could do nothing or encounter a nice surprise. I set off along the path that runs alongside the river and arrived in front of the Monte Gelato waterfall... well, beautiful, fairytale light, ideal for photography but... suddenly another hailstorm. I waited a few minutes to decide what to do and started photographing... Here the fun begins because the light changed continuously and suddenly between showers of rain and hail. When you are in the rain with exposed equipment it is not so pleasant, both for the risk to the equipment, both for the drops on the lens that in a wide angle are very evident and then you find them in the photo, but also for the carbon tripod that could attract some lightning. I start shooting with the 8-16 lens on which I mount my Holder and then I insert my ND1000 filter. The light drops excessively, just a few shots to decide to remove the holder, but the light returns... it was like this for the entire duration, from 7:00 pm to about 8:30 pm, between hail and rain. I almost immediately excluded the use of the ND1000 filter precisely because of the low light conditions, I mounted the 16-55 with which I did practically the entire service with the last shot at 190 seconds. I took some good shots, I had a lot of fun and I had an intimate experience with the forest and the Monte Gelato waterfall that in that magical atmosphere offered itself in all its splendor.
