I took a photo of the departure scene from the Showajima Monorail Depot and the switch of a straddle-type monorail. The Tokyo Monorail switch is thought to be a product of Hitachi Transportation Technology Co., Ltd. The hard rail (track girder) bends like a joint. There is a drive unit at the bottom of the track girder, and the switching scene is dynamic and interesting! The switch installed at the depot is designed without consideration of ride comfort because commercial trains do not pass through it and the passing speed is also low. It allows low-speed vehicles to pass through with some straight sections. On the other hand, the switch where commercial trains pass through is designed with the rail divided every few meters. It is designed to draw an almost smooth curve, taking into consideration the ride comfort and passing speed of commercial trains. It is said that it is designed to prevent commercial trains from being subjected to large vibrations or impacts. It is a mysterious structure that makes you feel as if the rail is alive when you look at the hard and soft rails many times. The Tokyo Monorail is a straddle-type monorail that opened in 1964. The maximum commercial speed is 80km/h, and it functions as an access route to Haneda Airport. During the daytime, there are 6 local trains and 6 airport rapid trains per hour, for a total of 12 trains. At Showajima Station, local trains wait and the airport rapid trains overtake them. During the weekday morning rush hour, only local trains run at 4-minute intervals. Also, I took a video of the moment when the point machines are switched over. When a monorail switch moves, the track girder bends like a joint. I also took some photos of trains departing from the Monorail Showajima Depot early in the morning.
