Would you climb 1200 steps to see an ancient village overlooking the sea?????In the Cinque Terre National Park there is a village far from time and from any comfort: I'm talking about MONESTEROLI located in the territory of Tramonti ???? in the province of La Spezia. After leaving the car???? in Campiglia (SP) you proceed towards the Locanda Tramonti where path 535 starts. The path immediately offers a wonderful view of the sea ???????? and of Schiara, another characteristic village of this area with the Scoglio Ferale in front.✝️ After about 1.5 km from the start you arrive at the Nozzano Fountain ⛲built in 1805 by Napoleonic troops. Then turn left and you arrive at the beginning of the Grande Scala: it is a staircase of almost 1200 unprotected stone steps that lead towards Monesteroli. The last stretch that allowed you to go down to the sea ???? has unfortunately collapsed. Monesteroli was inhabited in the past by winemakers ???? but now no one lives there anymore. Many of the cellars used for the vinification of grapes ???? have been transformed into holiday homes for tourists who love to stay away from the world ????️. I hope that access to the sea will also be fixed especially for those who have invested in this corner of paradise! If you are not tired once you have gone up from Monesteroli you can go down towards Schiara ????. It is a village always overlooking the sea where you will be welcomed by many cats ????. In Schiara there is a beautiful little church in honor of Sant'Antonio. ⛪????Access to the Schiara landing stage is closed as in Monesteroli and a sign indicates that you cannot go down to the sea but... Next to the Church of Sant'Antonio there is another path that leads first to an isolated house and then begins to descend turbulently with steps a few dozen centimeters wide.???????????? A path that I strongly advise against to anyone who is NOT an expert hiker!!! This steep path leads to the sea???????? (the last stretch is equipped with ladders and ropes). Once you reach the bottom you can admire the SCOGLIO FERALE up close. A metal cross was placed on it by the Navy in 1985 ✝️which replaced an old cross that was now destroyed. To return to Campigli you need to go towards the town of Schiara and with a steep climb you return to Campiglia. I leave you the link of my track below:???? ????
