One of the most common criticisms of the Shiite clergy over the years is why they behave in a deeply passive and even patronizing manner towards a government that is in power in the name of Islam and Shiism. Critics say that, by chance, in a government whose highest officials are the clergy themselves, the duty of the religious authorities and seminaries is heavier. However, most of the religious authorities of the Qom seminary not only do not behave in a supervisory and critical manner towards the government, but due to the influence of the Islamic Republic in the seminary, including the allocation of government budget and the appointment of seminary officials, the seminary has practically become a supporter of the authoritarian behavior of the Islamic Republic. However, there are still liberal clerics who cannot tolerate oppression of the Iranian nation and, by chance, because they are clerics, they consider it their duty to be at the forefront of criticizing the current deplorable situation. One of these liberal clerics is Mohammad Taqi Akbarnejad, a Tabrizi cleric. In a video, Akbarnejad talks about his family background, but emphasizes that it is the self-awareness of his position that makes them valuable, not its necessity and non-choice. What has made Akbarnejad popular among Iranian users these days is his courage and boldness in criticism. Instead of criticizing institutions that do not have much of a say in policymaking, he directly points to the Leader of the Islamic Republic, recognizing that the system's overall policies are determined by him, and criticizes Khamenei personally. Akbarnejad questions the Leader of the Islamic Republic in a respectful and compassionate manner and asks him for answers about the current situation. See more in this video.
