Let me explain why... Call of Duty is a gaming giant, and one of the most popular shooters in history. But within CoD, we can point to the Modern Warfare saga as the engine of the entire machine. It is the games in this universe that made Call of Duty the giant it is today, that took the franchise out of repetitive futuristic games, and if they continue like this, that will take all of Call of Duty to the scrapyard. Not only because of the lack of innovation, because of Warzone's constant intrusion into the decision-making of classic multiplayer mode, or because of the absurd levels of monetization that destroy any semblance of a consistent atmosphere. But because of the narrative. The campaigns, the stories these games tell us. Campaigns have always been a fundamental part of Call of Duty, they give meaning to the events of multiplayer, and they give you a reason to come back for more with the next installment. They are the pillars of the setting, the maps, the modes and so much more. The centerpiece of the complete Call of Duty experience that we all know. And that is what is most sad about Modern Warfare. The original trilogy hit the nail on the head, but the new one doesn't even hit the nail on the head. They have gone from telling special operations thrillers where everything is at stake, to a kind of improvised medley of generic bad guys. From a triple A action trilogy with no competition, to a poorly thought-out pastime with 0 character, ridiculous characters and meaningless stories. A complete downgrade from all imaginable parameters, except technical power, which makes them expose themselves. Call of Duty is one of the sagas that has left the most mark on me, I grew up with Modern Warfare basically. That is why I am doing this analysis, an account of the order of things, before time makes us put everything through a coat of pink paint.
