Ahmet Arslan, who completed his undergraduate and graduate education in the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at Ankara University, founded the Philosophy Department at the Faculty of Letters (then known as the Faculty of Social Sciences) of Ege University in 1979. Arslan, who retired from this department, speaks English, French, German and Arabic. Arslan has books and articles on Ottoman theological thought, medieval Islamic philosophy and ancient Greek philosophy. He has also made numerous translations from various Western languages and Arabic.
