Over the last few decades, not only has the technology used in model building changed in the area of model railways, but also the philosophy of how to design a model railway exhibition. Some people prefer to build an H0 gauge system that is suitable as a day trip destination and tourist attraction for the whole family, while others have specialized in absolutely authentic replicas of a display system. There are model railway systems on which a colorful mix of trains from different eras run, and then there are model railway systems that are strictly based on the historical model. However, there is no question that an enormous amount of time and effort must be invested in correct train sets, aged locomotives, buildings and authentically designed landscapes. It is therefore not surprising that there are very few public model systems that reflect a true image of reality. One such display system, which is hard to beat in terms of authenticity, is the "Modellbundesbahn", which opened on October 14, 2005 in Bad Driburg, was later expanded by another section in 2009 and reopened at the new location in Brakel on May 26, 2018. Therefore, it was a special concern of Pennula to present the "Modellbundesbahn", which reopened in May 2018. While in Pennula's many video films so far great importance has always been placed on reproducing only the real sound of locomotives and trains and deliberately dispensing with an audio commentary, it would be an absolutely unsatisfactory film document if additional explanations were dispensed with, especially in the case of the "Modellbundesbahn", which is now managed by Karl Fischer and Norbert Sickmann. Therefore, in this video, the "Model Federal Railway" is not only presented with various rides in the driver's cab and special camera angles, but also with an interview that Pennula conducted with Karl Fischer and Norbert Sickmann during filming. The Model Federal Railway, which was then known as the "Model Railway Show in Bad Driburg" or the "Model Railway Ottbergen", shows the authentic train operations as they took place in the Weserbergland in the summer of 1975 in the railway reality. In this video, Karl Fischer explains how the idea came about to create not only a recreation of the Ottbergen railway depot, but also an exact replica in 1/87 scale as a display system. Over time, the original hobby idea gave rise to the awareness that the railway history of the Weserbergland could only be implemented as a display system because it is a special topic. A journey through time and a document of contemporary history. Norbert Sickmann also explains how he himself became a "model federal railwayman" and what technology is used. Pennula's viewers learn that the "model federal railway" uses Tillig Elite track, that servos are used as switch drives, that the model railway system is controlled via the RMX control center from Rautenhaus and that it is operated using the "TrainController" program. In addition, special features are discussed, such as the automatic locomotive change, the automatic train shunting system or the rolling stock, which comes from Roco, BRAWA, KATO and Märklin, among others. Karl Fischer and Norbert Sickmann also point out that the move from Bad Driburg to Brakel was the only way to continue with the "model federal railway" in the future. In the background, plans for three new sections of the system are already being made and the "model federal railway" will be expanded very soon. The video also presents the new functional models and in particular the car system with the now famous radar trap. After all, Pennula was not able to film everything that the "Modellbundesbahn" has to offer. In the new exhibition hall, which now offers 675 m² of floor space, the current model railway system takes up just under 100 m². And in these 100 m² there are always small details to discover, so that just one day of filming or just one day of visiting is definitely not enough to get to know the system completely. There is still a lot to tell and write, but you should take the opportunity to visit the "Modellbundesbahn" in person soon. The track plan or a kind of overview plan, which is available for download on Pennula's website at http://www.pennula.de, offers a foretaste of this.
