Available until 07/08/2028 In Ukraine, the noose is tightening around conscientious objectors. Men who can be mobilized are actively sought throughout the country. So, some go into hiding while others flee abroad. It is a question of conscience: should you be a good patriot and go to the front, at the risk of losing your life? Or should you flee abroad and be considered a traitor? Many artists who would never have imagined joining the armed forces are called to defend their country. A few actors and DJs tell their daily lives live from the front. However, not all men of fighting age are ready to die for their country. Some have found refuge in the Ukrainian Carpathians. In the summer, they meet soldiers on leave who, in order to forget the war for a while, go to the Shypit hippie festival. Together, they enjoy these moments of relaxation. Many Ukrainians opt as a last resort to flee abroad. They go on a “hike” in the Carpathians, sometimes paying up to 8,000 euros to a smuggler. But these crossings are perilous: some are intercepted by border guards, others die in the mountains. A Ukrainian artist in exile recounts the adventures of his escape and the social pressure he has been under since his desertion.
