Urban mobility problems and solutions in the country's largest city - 04/18/2016 - Jornal Futura - Canal Futura Since February, the city of São Paulo has had an urban mobility plan, in line with national policy guidelines and the Urban Mobility Law, which came into effect in 2012. This document is currently the city's main public management instrument for this issue, with the aim of guiding actions, projects and investments in urban mobility already underway or planned for the next 15 years. The plan includes infrastructure plans for public transportation by bus, pedestrians, bicycles, as well as cargo, private cars, and improvements to sidewalks. There are currently 5,689,453 automobiles in the capital of São Paulo, according to Detran, which means that there is one car for every two people. São Paulo currently has 78 kilometers of subway and the goal is to build another 105 kilometers and ensure that the entire network is integrated. In addition, the city also has 500 kilometers of exclusive bus lanes. 381 kilometers of new bike paths have been opened and the intention is to create a continuous bike path network that should cover all regions of the city by 2030.
