Miriam Perestelo, local trade describes the Christmas campaign as positive, but urges to retain customers all year round copelapalma 07/01/2025 The past Christmas campaign has revitalized local trade, exceeding expectations and demonstrating the potential of this sector. However, the challenge now is to maintain this momentum and ensure the sustainability of trade throughout the year. According to preliminary data from business associations, sales during the Christmas holidays have experienced growth, thanks to better planning of promotional activities and greater consumer participation. "This year we have seen a significant increase in the influx of customers to our establishments in La Palma, which shows that joint initiatives between the public and private sectors are yielding results," says Miriam Perestelo. However, merchants warn of the need to design long-term strategies to avoid a new slowdown after the Christmas period. The withdrawal of programs such as consumer vouchers, scheduled for 2025, could negatively affect sales in the months of lower activity. “The key is to constantly innovate and offer unique shopping experiences that differentiate us from the competition,” she says. To meet these challenges, the sector demands greater commitment from public administrations, both at local and regional level. “We need public policies that encourage local consumption throughout the year and that help us adapt to new consumption models,” says Councillor Miriam Perestelo.
