Two high school students, Marinette and Adrien, are chosen to become superheroes of Paris: Ladybug and Cat Noir. They each have a Miraculous, a jewel linked to their magical creatures (Kwamis) that give them powers. Their mission is to keep Hawk Moth - who wants to steal their Miraculouses - from wreaking havoc on the city by creating increasingly dangerous supervillains - while living their high school lives and keeping their identities a secret. At school, Marinette has a crush on Adrien, but can't tell him, she acts awkward when he's around. As a superhero, Cat Noir likes Ladybug, but his ego annoys him: Marinette prefers Adrien anyway! Throughout the school year and their adventures, Ladybug discovers many beautiful qualities in Cat Noir while Marinette grows ever closer to Adrien, making enormous efforts to overcome her shyness. Marinette Dupain Cheng / Ladybug Marinette is a very creative and bubbly young middle schooler. She enjoys sewing as well as design (she created the new logo for her parents' bakery as well as red white blue Eiffel Tower-shaped glasses and the cover of a Jagged Stones album), but she is also very clumsy and lacks self-confidence. Her parents work in their small bakery located downstairs from their apartment. They say they make the best bread in Paris. She doesn't get along well with Chloé Bourgeois (the daughter of the mayor of Paris) because she can't stand Chloé's behavior, who thinks she can do whatever she wants and doesn't hesitate to create conflicts and use different means to achieve her ends, but that's not the only reason, they both love the same boy, Adrien. But Marinette also leads a double life, where she has to be Ladybug, and save Paris from the supervillains transformed by Le Papillon thanks to his evil Akumas. Fortunately, she is accompanied by another hero who helps her face these villains, Chat Noir (she doesn't suspect that it's Adrien, the boy she's madly in love with). When she transforms she is dressed in a tight-fitting jumpsuit and a red mask with black polka dots, like a ladybug, because in fact her Miraculous, which are her earrings, is that of the ladybug, the power of creation. She also has a formidable weapon, a yoyo, which she uses to move around, catch villains and especially capture and free the Akuma sent by Le Papillon from evil. Adrien is not a boy like the others. Indeed, his father (Gabriel Agreste) is a great fashion designer. He therefore lives in a huge house, all alone with his father, his father's secretary and his bodyguard (whom he calls the Gorilla). In addition, his father never let him go to school, or make new friends. He stayed at home with home tutoring. But finally, faced with his son's insistence, Gabriel Agreste finally gave in and Adrien was allowed to go to college and meet Nino, Alya, Marinette and all the others. But that's not all that makes him a rather special boy; in fact, he is hugely successful with girls (including Marinette and Chloé Bourgeois) because he is on all the covers of fashion magazines. He also takes fencing and Chinese lessons. Hawk Moth is the common enemy of Ladybug and Cat Noir. In order to seize their Miraculous, he creates Akumas, evil butterflies that transform the citizens of the capital into supervillains when they are overcome by emotions such as hatred, sadness or anger. His intentions are mysterious because he has never spoken about it... Note that "Akuma", in Japanese, means "demon" or "devil".
