Check-in for the crossing is at the legendary Alfonso XIII hotel. The Al-Andalus is a luxury train from Renfe in the Belle Epoque style. It is part of the family made up of the Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, the Costa Verde Express, and the Expreso de La Robla. With its 450 metres in length, it is the longest train running on the tracks in Spain, comparable to a 150-storey skyscraper. This is due to its 14 carriages, which accommodate a total of 74 people, distributed in two restaurant cars, a kitchen car, a bar car, a games room car, seven sleeping cars, a car for the crew and a generator car. It moves at different speeds depending on the route, reaching a maximum of 120 km. Every morning at 8am a member of the crew goes around the train ringing a bell to wake up those who have not set an alarm, and announce that breakfast is served. Now, we go to the dining rooms, where at the end there are several buffet-style tables with a huge variety for breakfast: from breads and pastries, to fruits, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt or cereals. In addition, you can order special dishes from the table with an à la carte menu, such as scrambled eggs, canapés, omelettes, or sandwiches. Scrambled eggs are usually my favorite option. You can order everything you want in terms of food and drink, including tea, coffee, juices, and even alcoholic drinks, although not for me at that time! After breakfast it is time to go and explore the different cities that we are visiting on this tour. In that sense, I like to think of Al-Andalus not so much as a train, but as a cruise on rails, since it is not about going from point A to point B, but about taking the time to travel around Andalusia with the peace of mind that our room, and our things, are always with us. In each city we go to the most important historical and cultural sites, always with a guide in our own language who tells us the history and meaning of what we are visiting. And if we enter any place that requires a ticket, it is also included in the total price of the trip. On this tour I was extremely fortunate to visit gems such as the center of Cadiz, the Puente Nuevo in Ronda, the Cathedral Mosque in Cordoba and the beautiful Alhambra in Granada, among others. At lunchtime we do not eat on the train but in different restaurants depending on the city we are in. And as I was saying, the food deserves its own section. Not only is it of the highest quality, but in each region we eat something typical of the place, to get to know it not only from a tourist perspective but also from a gastronomic perspective. Although I confess that my favorite time is in the afternoon when we return to the train, ready to move on to the next destination. This is when I can make use of the common spaces in the carriages to read or work for a while, or stay in the suite to relax a little. And unlike lunch, dinner is always on board, where the menu changes every night to reflect local cuisine. This menu is the same for all passengers, although if there are any dietary restrictions, of course, you can let us know and the kitchen will prepare an alternative. As I was saying, everything is included on the train, including alcoholic drinks during meals. I found the food to be exquisite every night, and it is always accompanied, for those who want it, with wines that are also local. After dinner, for those who don't want to go to sleep yet, there are different entertainment options every night, such as flamenco singers, magicians, guitarists or pianists. #travelvlogger #travelblogger #cecideviaje
