The name bumper car (or autoscooter) refers to an attraction for amusement parks or funfairs, which can be fixed or transportable by truck with trailer. It consists of a track, square or rectangular in shape, on which many small cars run, almost always two-seaters, equipped, all around the body, with a special bumper made of hard rubber or other suitable material, which allows the cars to repeatedly collide with each other without negative consequences for them or for the occupants. The aim of the bumper car is to avoid impacts as much as possible, which is quite complicated given that many cars run in a very limited space. The very first models of bumper cars used internal combustion engines, which were soon abandoned in favor of an electric motor, powered by a narrow-mesh electrified net placed about 2.5 meters from the ground, by rubbing on the net itself with a special metal antenna placed at the top of a pole protruding from the rear of the car. Often the insertion and removal of the current from the network decrees the start and end of the ride. Apart from the design of the cars, which today in some cases reproduces, under license from car manufacturers, some famous car models, the appearance and concept of the bumper car has remained almost unchanged in recent decades. Sometimes, in the modern generation of bumper cars, in the evening, strobe lights, fog and very loud music played through large speakers are used, in order to create an atmosphere similar to that of a disco. The bumper car differs substantially from other amusement park attractions in that, based on direct interaction between users, it often turns into a meeting and aggregation place. Based on the type and the user group for which they are intended, bumper cars can be distinguished into: - Traditional bumper cars, described above; - Miniscooters or bumper cars for children, similar in all respects to those for adults but smaller and intended for children; often in these bumper cars there are also single-seater cars in the shape of motorcycles; - Water bumper cars, used exclusively in the summer, in which the track is replaced by a swimming pool full of water and the cars consist of small inflatable boats with an electric or thermal engine.
