In the 1950s, after the successful launch of the Mi-1 and Mi-4 helicopters, it became obvious to the Mil Design Bureau that the USSR needed a multi-purpose helicopter capable of performing tasks in both the civil and military spheres. In 1960, under the leadership of Mil, the development of a new helicopter began, which received the designation V-2. The helicopter was to have a more spacious cabin than the Mi-1, improved performance and the ability to be used in agriculture.
