Written in 1933, the novel "The place where nothing happened" captures the consequences of urbanization at the end of the 19th century on Moldovan fairs. Lai Cantacuzin (Neculai Cantacuzino) - 48-year-old boyar, doctor of law in Paris, descendant of the Cantacuzin Byzantine emperors. He is the son of Iordache Cantacuzino, a vel-vornik, and Smaranda Ruset, a vornice. He studied in Paris, where he spent his youth, then returned to the place of his childhood, temporarily accepting the position of prefect of a county in the north of Moldova during the conservative governments. He spends his time compiling a sociological monograph of the Moldavian fair, writing an intimate diary, maintaining a love relationship with the wife of General Argintar and taking care of the education of the young Daria Mazu. Not long after, he is invited to the hunt, but although he succeeds in hunting the trophy, he dreams of a different kind of trophy: he wants a new love, because he got bored of Mrs. Argintar. After a long reflection, he comes to the conclusion that this goal of his can be fulfilled by Daria Mazu, a former student of his. But no matter how hard he tries, he fails to express his turmoil in front of Daria Mazu.
