The MiG-25 is a Soviet supersonic fighter-interceptor, created by the Mikoyan and Gurevich Design Bureau in the 1960s. The aircraft was created as the main component of the unified air defense system of the USSR and was supposed to neutralize the threat of a high-speed high-altitude breakthrough by supersonic strategic bombers and reconnaissance aircraft of the US Air Force, such as the A-12, SR-71 and XB-70. The MiG-25, capable of flying at altitudes of up to 25 km at speeds of up to 3000 km / h, became the owner of many world records and is considered one of the fastest aircraft in the world. The MiG-25 family had many modifications: the basic interceptor MiG-25P and reconnaissance MiG-25R, as well as two-seat versions, bombers, carriers of special missiles, and so on. Between 1969 and 1985, more than 1,190 aircraft were produced, some of which were exported to several countries in the Middle East and Asia. At the moment, most of the fleet is decommissioned.
