The temperature dropped suddenly in December, and snow fell intermittently not only on the Sea of Japan side of southern Hokkaido but also on the Pacific side, turning everything into a world of silver. This was the full-fledged arrival of winter in Hokkaido. I had planned my first fishing trip to the Sea of Japan in early December, but the sea conditions on the planned days were bad, and I had to cancel the trip twice in a row. As the middle of the month drew to an end, there were days when the waves were high but it was still possible to fish, and this weekend the forecast was for a slight rise in daytime temperature to above zero, so I decided to drive to the Sea of Japan and start my sea trout and sea cherry salmon fishing trip.
