Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to a new video from Eat Play Sleep Repeat! Yesterday, January 18, 2022, was a historic day for the video game industry. Microsoft announced the purchase of one of the most important video game publishers in this business, the developer Activision Blizzard, responsible for some of the most popular franchises on the planet such as World of Warcraft, Diablo or Call of Duty and also owner of the mobile game studio King, creators of the famous Candy Crush. The Seattle giant will pay close to 60 billion euros (68.7 billion dollars) for the company, the largest acquisition ever made by the company. The operation - which Microsoft expects to complete in 2023 - promises to shake the foundations of the electronic entertainment industry. Activision Blizzard is the sixth largest video game developer in the world and is also the owner of some of the most played titles in e-sports tournaments. Between all the games in its catalogue, it has more than 400 million monthly active players in 190 countries. With Activision Blizzard as part of the Xbox division, Microsoft will become the second largest video game company by revenue, only behind Sony. This is a position that it has achieved thanks to important strategic acquisitions over the last few years and which benefit above all its Xbox console, which now has many more exclusive games on the horizon with which to boost its sales. But of course, the question that everyone is asking now after this huge operation is... how will this affect Sony PlayStation? Are we witnessing the beginning of a drastic change in the paradigms and concepts that we had internalized within this industry? What alternatives are left for Sony PlayStation to be able to compete head-to-head against a giant like Microsoft? And what exactly is Microsoft aiming for with this purchase? We will discuss all this and more in today's video. I hope you like it! Follow me on Twitter - /eatplaysleepre1 Follow me on Instagram - /henri.sterlin #MicrosoftbuysActivisionBlizzard
