After the MH17 plane crash, July 23, 2014 was declared a day of national mourning. That day, forty coffins with victims arrived at Eindhoven Air Base. The entire country was shocked by the plane crash, in which 196 Dutch people died. Flags were flown at half-mast, church bells were rung and flowers were laid at Schiphol.
