Following my test of the superlative 450 SEL 6.9, W116 generation, I tackle another Mercedes myth, the one that will succeed it in 1979: the W126. This model is at the other end of the range, with a simple but effective little 6 in line but you will see that the car has had a great career on the Côte d'Azur and it is full of authentic details. W126 vs W116, the eternal dilemma (for me) of the best Sonderklasse... If its predecessor could boast of a record-breaking build quality, the W126, although produced a little more economically, will crush it in aura and number of models produced, largely due to its timeless design and technical innovations...
