MERCADÃO'S MORTADELLA SNACK BAR DO MANÉ WHERE THE TRADITIONAL SANDWICH OF SP WAS BORN Who has never heard of the traditional mortadella sandwich of São Paulo?! The traditional sandwich was born in the municipal market of SP and Bar do Mané is known as one of the most responsible for the creation and promotion of the snack. Opened in 1933, together with the opening of the Municipal Market of São Paulo, the bar is located in a box on the ground floor of the market. The snack bar has experienced all the transformations that the place has undergone, and has also undergone all the modernization. In the beginning it was called Bar do Jeremias, founder and grandfather of Marco, who is now in charge of the traditional spot in the market. Over time, Marcão's father took over and then the name of the bar was changed to Bar do Mané. The mortadella sandwich was placed on the counters to speed up the hungry customers of the market. In the beginning, there was little mortadella, a fact that continued with the price being set by the government, until the mid-1980s when the owner was allowed to charge whatever price he wanted. With that, the snack bar began to add new quantities of mortadella at the request of customers and today boasts 350g of juicy and delicious Bologna-style Mortadella (Italian).
