Dr. Ewa Herbst was born in Warsaw in 1948. Her mother, Dr. Irena Herbst, née Diamand, was a gynecologist, co-founder and lecturer at the Medical Training School. Her father, Emil Herbst, was a pre-war communist, the managing director of the Central Board of the Popularization of Press and Books "Ruch". The Herbst family, with Jewish roots, was completely assimilated. During March '68, Ewa was a first-year student of electronics at the Warsaw University of Technology. As a result of the anti-Semitic campaign after the March events, she left Poland with her mother and brother, who was 1.5 years younger than her, in November 1969 and settled in Sweden. Ewa's father decided to stay in the country. Thanks to his contacts, Ewa Herbst received permission to visit him in Poland a few years later, but when she tried to visit on her own again, she was not allowed in by the authorities of the time. During the first two years of emigration, Ewa Herbst wrote several dozen poems, which, at the request of friends, were published in 2017 by the publishing house "Austeria" under the title "Dokument podróż. Wiersze". Currently, Ewa Herbst lives in the United States. By profession, she is an electronics engineer and scientist and works in the medical electronics industry.
