In the debate before Sweden became a member of NATO, the mantra was that "we must join" with reference to the greatly deteriorated security situation. This meant that many questions about what happens to Sweden in case of membership and which member Sweden should and can be disappeared in the discussion. Now Sweden is involved and it is time to ask the questions that have not been asked. What type of member can Sweden be in NATO? The focus in the discussion surrounding Swedish membership in NATO has been dominated by the military dimension of the defense alliance, but the organization is also a political organization. The fact that NATO is also a political alliance requires a larger discussion that rather concerns Sweden's foreign policy. How does the political dimension of NATO work? Who decides and what influence can Sweden have? What lessons can we learn from other like-minded members? In the seminar, we also ask the question whether Swedish membership in NATO has affected Sweden's work for peace and security in the world and whether the image of Sweden has changed abroad as a result of the membership.
