On Thursday, September 23, 2021, Jean-Luc Mélenchon debated against Éric Zemmour. He explained that this debate was an opportunity to put the real problems of our country on the front burner: the fight against climate change, poverty, the social crisis, and to move away from Mr. Zemmour's sterile themes. The candidate of the Popular Union in the presidential election denounced the "danger for France" that Éric Zemmour represents, particularly for women's rights. He also demonstrated the falsity of the far-right polemicist's extravagant figures on immigration. Conversely, Jean-Luc Mélenchon defended the "republican religion" of the French people united around its motto: "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity." Regarding security, faced with an Éric Zemmour who did not propose much, Jean-Luc Mélenchon rolled out his program: disbanding the BAC and the BRAV, stopping the use of flashballs and grenades by the police in maintaining order. He defended a republican police force, respectful of people, trained and disciplined. He also affirmed that he wanted to put an end to arms, drug and human trafficking for good and fight against the laundering of dirty money. The debate then focused on the independence of France and its sovereignty. Jean-Luc Mélenchon defended leaving NATO. But he also spoke about the influence of our country, mentioning in particular our maritime territory (the second largest in the world) and our contribution to space research. He also proposed that the Francophonie become a political space for cooperation between peoples sharing the common language of French. Jean-Luc Mélenchon then developed his social program: minimum wage at 1400 euros net, retirement at 60 for 40 years, freezing of certain prices and in particular of energy (electricity, gas, gasoline) and food. He explained that these measures were also ecological measures since a better salary also often means better food consumption. On all these subjects, Éric Zemmour remained silent. The candidate of the Popular Union in the presidential election also defended his program in ecological matters. He explained that he wanted to put in place ecological protectionism to prohibit the entry into our territory of products containing glyphosate since he himself would ban it in France. He also said that we had to get out of nuclear power and explained how a plan would make it possible to do so by developing renewable energies and creating tens of thousands of jobs. Regarding the European treaties, Jean-Luc Mélenchon made an absolute commitment to implement his program no matter what, explaining that if European treaties opposed him, he would apply a right of "opt-out" on these treaties, that is to say of non-application. Defending the sovereignty of the people in all its dimensions, he also pleaded again for a 6th Republic, a citizens' initiative referendum and the right to recall elected officials. Finally, Jean-Luc Mélenchon concluded the program by recalling that the number 1 challenge to be met was to face climate change. He underlined the urgency of this challenge by specifying that without action on our part, in 2050, several areas of France will be under water and 1 million people flooded each year. To face this, he proposed to apply the "green rule", a measure present in his program which consists of not taking from nature more than it can replenish. The candidate for the 2022 presidential election also called, in the era of climate change, for everyone to act together, in solidarity and without discrimination. #Zemmour #Melenchon #DebatBFMTV
