In this video we will consider all Melanochromis that are in my breeding. I bought three species - MELANOCHROMIS AURATUS (Melanochromis auratus) / Melanochromis golden / Golden parrot; MELANOCHROMIS MAINGANO (Melanochromis Maingano); MELANOCHROMIS JOHANN (Melanochromis johann). All species of melanochromis are African lake cichlids, mbuna. These fish are amazing in their color, shape and size. Melanochromis has an elongated body with a rounded head. Usually, in an aquarium, the fish grows 10-11 cm. It has a small mouth and eyes with a golden iris. Melanochromis auratus - the male has a length of 11-12 cm, the female is slightly smaller. The body of the male is dark (brown, sometimes black) with two horizontal blue stripes, one of which is narrower than the other. The back of the fish has a golden hue. The fin on the back is grayish with yellowish or bluish. The anal fin is black with a light spot and a blue border. Females have a golden body with two brown or black stripes. The same dark brown stripe on the dorsal fin. There are black spots on the tail. Melanochromis maingano - Grow up to 10 cm. Males have a bright blue body with two blue longitudinal stripes and the same blue lines on the dorsal fin and a dark shade of the belly. In females, on the contrary, the belly is light and the light color with dark horizontal stripes predominates. Melanochromis johani is distinguished by the black color of males and two blue horizontal stripes. The female fish are golden-orange, and the males have the same color until they reach maturity at 10 months.
