The megalodon roamed the oceans, scaring (and devouring) everything in its path after the dinosaurs were wiped out by the great meteorite. We know that it was the largest and most brutal predator that ever existed, and also the largest shark. It was the king of the seas, and swam freely throughout most of the oceans. But then, about 2 and a half million years ago, the last specimen disappeared from Earth forever, leaving only its enormous teeth for modern archaeologists to find. But why did the megalodon go extinct? At first, scientists thought that a mass marine extinction had occurred at that time, causing the megalodon to disappear. They believed that a supernova exploded about 150 light-years from Earth, and that its cosmic radiation had reached our planet, changing the climate. But then, in 2019, a group of researchers discovered something strange: the fossils of these sharks dated back to an earlier period – that is, they could have gone extinct before the supernova. A new explanation needed to be devised, and it came from an unexpected source... #brightside Goblin Shark, Pengo: By Wikimedia, CC BY-SA 3.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/..., https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index...
