Dear friends, I am back on LongevityNOW-FL, the channel of science and philosophy of health and longevity. Today I would like to offer you some nourishment for the mind, for the soul, some philosophical pearls to cultivate emotional and spiritual well-being. I will read you some selected passages from the first chapter of the book by Chuang Tzu, the great philosopher and patriarch of Taoism. What does Chuang Tzu want to teach us with these thoughts? He invites us to reflect on the intrinsic freedom of the sage, on the fact that the perfect man, who identifies himself with the universe, and actively participates in the evolution of life, is absolutely free. This perfect man is completely free because he has overcome all limitations and finds his happiness in every form of existence, regardless of size, small or large, or circumstances. Happiness derived from finite things is intrinsically limited, as it depends on external conditions. For example, if we find happiness only in life, we will lose it in death. If we anchor our joy only in honor, it will vanish in eventual dishonor. On the contrary, the perfect man is freed from such bonds, experiencing the transformation of life and death as a natural cycle, analogous to the succession of day and night, seasons and physiological cycles. This inner freedom allows him to face the vicissitudes of life without being conditioned by gains and losses, by good or bad, by good fortune and bad, manifesting a serene acceptance of the universal flow. However, what many philosophers, including Spinoza, did not understand, given his premature death at only 45 years of age, is that they may not have fully exploited their genetic potential. They ignored the universal metabolic and molecular laws that govern the functioning of the human organism, and that can maximize health and longevity. Understanding and applying these laws not only greatly increases the likelihood of living a long and healthy life, but also allows you to enjoy many years in harmony with nature and the universe, appreciating the miracle that is life itself. Not knowing and not applying these laws means going against nature and missing a rare and unique opportunity to fully live all the experiences that life gives us.
