Fabio Ochoa Vasquez, a founder of the Medellin Cartel and former associate of Pablo Escobar, has been released after 25 years in prison. Ochoa Vasquez had been involved in several high-profile Florida-related cases, including the 1986 murder of DEA informant Barry Seal. Ochoa and his brothers first surrendered to Colombian authorities in 1991 after a law was passed that exempted traffickers willing to abandon the trade from extradition. After his release in 1996, he was arrested again three years later and extradited in 2001, again on drug charges, and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
