About :

A beginner with zero breeding experience bought medaka eggs and started breeding them. I hope that by sharing the actual breeding process as a beginner based on the knowledge I gained from watching the "How to Raise for Beginners" video posted on YouTube, I can help those who want to breed other medakas. After watching other YouTuber's videos, I have always wanted to breed improved medakas. This time, my wish came true and I bought medaka eggs. I actually wanted to buy beautiful parent fish, but they are too expensive, so after consulting with my wallet, I decided to start with eggs. The breed is the "Black Lame Mikino Sapphire" variety created by Shizukaan. The breeding container is a plastic case for insects. I raised them on an outdoor balcony in a pseudo biotope with floating plants. Since I am an amateur, I would appreciate any advice if the breeding method is different. There may be other points that I have not explained, so if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask in the comments section. [Basic points for raising medaka from eggs to fry and young fish] - When purchasing eggs, wait until the temperature is suitable for hatching (a minimum temperature of 15°C or higher is said to be a guideline) - Raise them outdoors (sunlight is apparently important for medaka, and wind also acts as aeration) - Prepare food for the fry in addition to powdered food (fry often die from starvation. This time we have given PSB, which can be purchased at home improvement centers.) [Advantages of raising medaka from eggs] - Compared to purchasing adult fish, eggs are relatively cheap - Since you raise them from fry, you can observe the growth of the fish from scratch - No need to acclimate them to water when introducing them (tap water is fine right away) [Disadvantages of raising medaka from eggs] - Not all eggs will necessarily hatch - It takes time to raise young fish (it takes time to see beautiful medaka) - The grown-up appearance may not be what you expected [Possible problems with buying eggs on Yahoo! Auctions, etc.]・None of the eggs sent hatched・The medaka grew into a lighter color than in the photo・The medaka grew into a different species in the first place [Things I paid attention to when purchasing] ①Check the seller's reviews In the case of eggs, it takes time to determine whether they are fraudulent, so reviews are not very reliable. Even if 99% of the reviews are good, it is better to check the reasons for the 1% of bad reviews. If the reviews say that the eggs were moldy, that none of them hatched, or that they were a different species of medaka, you may need to be careful. ②Don't trust the images too much It is possible that the images have been edited or that photos of different parent fish have been used. It is best to be careful of images that are unbelievably beautiful. ③Choose the species to purchase Breeds with a low fixation rate, such as tricolor medaka, are not suitable for purchasing eggs. It is said that only a few out of 100 to 1,000 produce beautiful tricolors. It may be better to avoid eggs of species called patterned ones. I recently found out that Charm, a major aquarium mail order company, also sells improved medaka eggs. It may be more expensive, but I think it's a good idea to buy from a trusted store. I was careful about many things when I bought it, but I wonder if my "Sapphire" is really real. I hope you will continue to watch the growth of the medaka in the future. The points of breeding that I couldn't explain in this video are explained in the emerald fin version, which I started breeding at the same time. There may be some overlap with this video, but please take a look at the emerald fin version if you like. • [Medaka] [For beginners] Raising medaka starting from eggs From eggs to needles and fry in 31 days...
